After months of collaboration with The School Board of Highlands County and South Florida State College, we hosted our first official on-site field trip yesterday. Our goal is to provide students interested in pursuing careers in construction with the opportunity to experience a real project site, discuss construction details, and most importantly, ask questions. Twenty students enrolled in the South Florida State College Corporate and Community Education Construction Trades Summer Program visited the Avon Park High School Field House project. The students learned about site safety, observed a transformer replacement, discussed career paths, and had a chance to cool off in the project trailer. This trip marked the end of the program, during which they also donated a handmade bench to Ridge Area Arc. We are grateful to be a part of these students’ introduction to the construction industry and look forward to inspiring many more in the future.
